Board Officers – Elegibility / Duties

Chapter Board Officers are elected online, usually in January. The winners of the election will be announced at the annual business meeting in January or February. Positions on the board are for 2-year terms, some being elected in Odd Years and some being elected in Even years. AMTA – Utah Chapter has two Delegates. Delegate positions are for 2-year terms and overlap, with one position elected in an odd year and the other in an even year. Alternate Delegates are elected for 1 year terms.


All candidates must be professional members in good standing and sign the Volunteer Code(s) of Conduct.


Utah Chapter President

2-year term, elected in even years (2018, 2020…)

Utah Chapter President Duties/Responsibilities are to set the direction and pace of the Chapter’s activities based on the vision that has been determined by the Chapter membership, Chapter Board of Directors, and other Chapter Officers.   The Chapter President serves as a leader, planner, mentor, mediator, and facilitator.

The Chapter President is accountable to the Membership by virtue of election and to the Chapter Board, the Chapter membership and the AMTA National Board  through reporting activities.

The Chapter President agrees to uphold and abide by National AMTA Bylaws, Policy, Job Description, Chapter Volunteer Code of Conduct, and Chapter Standing Rules, Chapter Policies (if applicable), and Financial Policies & Procedures.

  1. Is a voting member of the Chapter Board of Directors.
  2. Prepares the agenda for Chapter membership and Board meetings, and provides the agenda and all supporting documentation to Board members and appropriate appointees at least one week prior to the Board meeting.
  3. Attends and presides over, or delegates authority, maintains order, and expediently conducts business at all Chapter meetings and Board meetings; and is familiar with Robert’s Rules of Order.

Utah Chapter Board Members (Odd & Even)

Duties – In the absence of the President, presides in their respective order as Chapter President pro-tem. In the event of a vacancy in the office of President, succeed to that office for the unexpired term in their respective order.

Serve as chair of standing committees and or assume assignments as directed by the Chapter President and or Board of Directors.

Utah Chapter Board Members (2, one elected in odd years, one elected in even years) presently includes responsibility/supervision of:

  • Newsletter
  • Website
  • Finance Committee
  • Education Committee
  • Chapter Convention Committee
  • Government Relations Committee
  • Awards Committee

Utah Chapter Financial Administrator

2-year term, elected in odd years (2017, 2019…)

The Chapter Treasurer serves as the financial coordinator and serves the chapter by ensuring the integrity of the fiscal affairs of the chapter through maintenance of accurate financial records of the chapter.

The Chapter Treasurer is responsible to conduct the day-to-day financial affairs of the Chapter under the direction of the Board of Directors, hold responsibility for chapter finances and keep an accurate record of all income and disbursements. Has experience in bookkeeping, accounting or finance.

Utah Chapter Secretary

2-year term, elected in even years (2016, 2018…)

The Chapter Secretary is the official keeper of the Chapter records and is responsible for maintaining and updating Chapter records during her/his term of office.

  1. Is a voting member of the Chapter Board of Directors and is familiar with Robert’s Rules of Order.
  2. Acts in the place of the Chapter President in the absence or incapacity of the Chapter President, 1 st Vice President, 2 nd Vice President and 3 rd Vice President.
  3. Distributes announcements of Chapter Board meetings and Chapter membership meetings in accordance with National AMTA Bylaws, Policy and Chapter Standing Rules (if applicable).
  4. Attends Chapter Board and membership meetings and ensures that attendance, votes and the proceedings of the

Delegates (2 positions)

  • 2-year term, elected in even years (2016, 2018…)
  • 2-year term, elected in odd years (2015, 2017…)

Delegates represent the Utah Chapter at AMTA National conventions. The responsibility of the delegates is to represent the views of the Utah chapter and to vote on topics regarding AMTA National By-Laws and position statements.

Delegates expenses are reimbursed only for attendance at the House of Delegates meeting at the National Convention, including transportation, lodging and meals. Convention registration fees and additional days/nights of lodging are optional and are the responsibility of the delegate.

Alternate Delegates

Elected each year for a 1-year term

Alternate Delegate assumes duties of a Delegate when that delegate is unable to attend meetings or perform duties.
